A rare Victorian dressing table vanity crafted by the esteemed London maker J.B. Richards of St. James’s Steam Cabinet Works, Curtain Road, London, circa 1878-1883. This exceptional example showcases the refined craftsmanship of the late Victorian Aesthetic Movement, featuring warm walnut tones contrasted by striking ebonized trim and original brass hardware.
The table offers nine drawers for storage, including four upper drawers flanking the original beveled mirror. Elegant turned supports, decorative spindle gallery details, and a graceful arched stretcher create a sophisticated silhouette, while the original and unique brass casters provide both mobility and period authenticity.
Pieces bearing the original J.B. Richards maker’s plaque are increasingly difficult to find, making this an especially desirable example for collectors of English Victorian furniture. The combination of practical storage, original mirror, and distinctive London provenance makes it equally suited as a excellent statement piece.
The table is in great original condition with very minimal signs of wear; minor wear present on the tabletop- see pics. The original character and patina contribute to its authenticity and charm. A satin polyurethane topcoat has been applied throughout to protect and preserve the finish.
