An elegant late 19th century Sheraton side chair, likely dating to circa 1880–1900, featuring exceptionally detailed neoclassical decoration and a delicate, refined silhouette.
The open back is framed with fine contrasting string inlay and features a pierced vertical splat accented with individual fan paterae. The crest rail is beautifully decorated with an intricate classical urn surrounded by floral swags and ribbon and bow motifs. Additional inlaid paterae embellish the upper portions of the slender square legs, which taper gracefully into traditional spade feet.
Several construction details further support the chair's late 19th-century origins. The underside retains large slotted flathead screws, substantial shaped wooden corner blocks, and traditional woven jute/hemp upholstery webbing beneath the seat.
The chair has been carefully refinished to revive the warm tone of the wood and showcase its intricate inlaid details while retaining the character of an antique piece. The seat is upholstered in a soft dusty rose velvet and finished with coordinating decorative trim. The velvet complements the warm wood beautifully and gives the chair an especially romantic, collected appearance.
Perfect as a vanity or dressing chair, desk chair, bedroom accent, entryway chair, or occasional seating in a traditional interior. Its refined design pairs beautifully with English, Traditional, Federal, French, Grandmillennial, Victorian, and collected antique interiors.
The chair is in great antique condition with only minor signs of wear; light wear near the bottom of the back legs- see pics carefully. The velvet seat has been cleaned and a satin polyurethane topcoat has been applied to the chairs wood frame to protect and preserve the finish.
