A striking antique General Electric cabinet dating to approximately the 1930s, originally designed to house period radio and/or phonograph components and later repurposed as a versatile storage cabinet.
The cabinet features an exceptionally decorative facade with richly figured, bookmatched grain creating a dramatic symmetrical pattern across the pair of doors. Contrasting wood borders, fine geometric inlay, and small diamond accents add architectural detail, while the upper faux drawer panels continue the highly figured treatment. An original General Electric emblem remains prominently displayed along the upper front edge.
The double doors open to reveal a spacious interior that was modified at some point in the cabinet’s history with added shelving after the original electronic components were removed. While the interior shelves are not original, the conversion gives this beautiful early GE casework an entirely new and practical purpose. The cabinet also rests on concealed wheels/casters, allowing it to be moved and repositioned more easily while maintaining the appearance of its traditional bracket-style base.
With its compact proportions and generous interior storage, this piece could function beautifully as a bar or liquor cabinet, linen cabinet, entryway storage, book cabinet, media cabinet, or accent cabinet.
The cabinet is in great antique condition with very minimal signs of wear with the top having just been refinished; minor nick on the tabletop still present, minor flaw on the very bottom of the front right foot bracket - see pics. A satin polyurethane topcoat has been applied throughout to protect and preserve the finish.
